Quantum Information and Quantum Simulation

J. Ignacio Cirac (MPI für Quantenoptik, Garching)

In this series of lectures, a brief and general overview of the field of quantum information science will be given, paying special attention to the relations to the other subjects that will be covered during the school. Concepts like entanglement, separability, teleportation, or quantum gates will be discussed, as well as their connections to particular physical systems. Special emphasis will be given to the field of quantum simulation of many-body quantum systems, as well as ways of implementing it with specially taylored physical systems. Finally, some of the subjects that will be explained in the lectures will be illustrated with specific physical setups involving atoms or emitters strongly coupled to photonic crystals.
